I Tested Natural Deodorant After FDA Recalled 67000 Products

natural deodorant after FDA recall

After the FDA recalled over 67,000 deodorants from major U.S. retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and Dollar Tree, many consumers began rethinking their everyday personal care products, including UK-based journalist Sophie Bates.

The recall, announced on July 10, 2025, targeted three Power Stick roll-on deodorants manufactured by A.P. Deauville, LLC, due to cGMP deviations (Current Good Manufacturing Practice violations). While there were no reports of contamination or injury, these deviations indicated possible issues with product safety, formulation, or quality control.

Amid growing concern, Sophie Bates a writer for The Sun decided to switch to natural deodorant and shared her experience after testing a product from the eco-conscious brand Wild.

She used the deodorant daily for a month across various settings: office hours, gym sessions, and even overnight. Despite initial doubts, she found herself surprisingly impressed by the product’s performance.

“For the first few days, I didn’t feel as fresh as I usually would with a traditional deodorant, but after that, I didn’t notice much difference at all,” she wrote.

Bates noted a brief adjustment period but praised Wild for neutralizing odor effectively. Though she did sweat more at first, that effect subsided. She emphasized that the chemical-free formula and refillable packaging made it feel like a worthwhile switch.

“Everything about Wild is natural from the recycled packaging to the formula but without compromising on quality.”

While Wild deodorant is slightly more expensive and messier than traditional options, Bates said the benefits outweighed the cons. The brand’s refills start at $7.50, with full cases priced around $16, and they claim each refill saves 30 grams of plastic from landfills.

Her story comes at a time when consumers are paying closer attention to product labels and safety, especially following the Power Stick recall.
